The Confraternity of Christian Mothers was established in 1850 in France. Presently there are six Archconfraternities throughout the world, one located in Pittsburgh at St. Augustine’s Church. Under the special patronage of the “Mother of Sorrows”, members are encouraged to undertake the important task of training and sanctifying the young souls entrusted to their care. They support one another by word, deed, and prayer and thus become the mainstay of the spiritual life within their own family and a blessing to the community in which they live. The Confraternity is an excellent way to meet other women in the parish. Membership is open to all adult women: married or single, with or without children. Consider allowing yourself an evening out once a month as a source of enrichment, support, and renewal – something just for you.

The Confraternity of Christian Mothers was established in France on May 1, 1850 and found its way into America by 1881. St. Ursula Parish established a confraternity in 1951 with 126 charter members. In 1978 our Board of Directors initiated a change to include single women in the organization and in 1982 the official name changed to St. Ursula Confraternity of Christian Mothers-Guild.
The object of the Christian Mothers is the Christian home education of children. It plans to unite all Christian women, married, widowed and single, who are willing to assist one another to attain its purposes. Members are encouraged to undertake the important task of training and sanctifying the young entrusted to their care, and grow to maturity of faith. Spiritual activities include meeting as a group for the rosary, Mass, and special prayers for children, plus an annual Meager Meal Evening of Reflection. Members participate in various home and foreign mission projects. Social activities include programs or entertainment following the meetings. All women are invited to attend and join the Christian Mothers-Guild.
